Games and Stories (Also: Birthday)

Mon Aug 17, 2009, 9:25 AM
Hello, everyone. Here's a rant update just so you know that I'm not dead.

Among the many things I've had to deal with recently, I have found time to take a look at a few MMO's of various kinds. First up: a shameless plug.

This game is called "Pocket Nightmares," a free-to-play, browser-based game. It's a fairly new game made by :iconphoenixignis:; it's fun and has a lot potential. There is a chat box built in so you can chat with other players and, since the user base is small, the developers. Be warned, there is no filter so the coversations can get a little mature and perhaps R-rated.

Here's a tip: Never mention Pokemon to the developer Ignis.

Here's a link: [link]

Next up is a rare sight to behold: A Sci-Fi MMO. Taikodom is... I guess you could call it a Space Sim, though it is more than just a simple Space Sim. There is only one and precisely one server for this game. It is part of a massive project in Brazil that spans over multiple forms of media (mostly literary). There's a English version in the works, but that doesn't mean you can't play it right now; it is translated for english speakers. Just don't expect many people to speak english.

My main is a Scout and here's the website: [link]

Now here's a interesting piece of information: DDO is about to become F2P. For those who don't know what that means, I just said that Dungeons & Dragons Online is going to be Free-to-Play. The date for this change is September 9th of this year (subscribers get to come in early on the 1st). This is by far one of the best pieces of gaming info that I have ever heard.

I've already started planning my character. He's going to be a Human Ranger/Sorcerer. There will also be a Necromancer.

And now, stories.

I have come up with two story ideas that I'm stuck on which to work on. One is a modern day story involving magic and the supernatural, inspired by the Young Wizards Series and a roleplaying book entitled Open Versitle Anime (OVA) RPG. The next story was based on this thought: What would I get if I combined Final Fantasy with Dungeons & Dragons. All in all, I pleased with the way my thoughts were going with this one. However, I need to learn to focus so here is what I'm going to do: I'm going to write two short stories based on these two ideas. A sort of prologue, if you will. From there I will see what others think of them and write the one that people take a liking to.

I realize that not many people take a look at my profile, but I need to post something anyway. Look forward to it.

Also, there is a new Manga (or rather Manhwa) that I've started to read called 1/2 Prince. What's it about? Why, it's about a young girl who, as part of a bet, plays as a male elf bishonen in an online video game. I guess what makes it interesting is the fact that the game uses VR technology and that normally one cannot change there gender in this particular game. All in all, great action and comedy. It is also adapted from a Chinese (I think) novel of the same name.

Check it out on One Manga: [link]

And in other news, today is my birthday. I am now 21 years old and my older sister just invited me out for a drink later this evening. This is probably the second loneliest celebration that I must endure year after year, the first being Valentine's Day. At least I can celebrate this occasion with my family.

Here's an added bonus as a thank you for taking this time to read this rant: Two Zatch Bell (AKA Gash Bell) AMV's, both kick ass.

That is all.

Hey, thanks for the fave!

A strong leader is expected to maintain steadfast resolve in his opinion even if the environment changes or he gets new information. In any other context, that would be considered the first sign of a brain tumor.

Think nothing of it. Bards are on my mind now (started playing D&D) so it only made sense to add it.

I'll browse the rest of your art later.

You're welcome. I love the crossover comic. I've seen a good deal of fan fiction in my time as a writer and I must say that this is one of the few story ideas that actually looks good. The characters are more or less themselves, no Gary Stu(s) or Mary Sue(s) in sight... yeah, you might be looking at a winner here.

Keep up the good work and don't force yourself.

I can't wait to see you move onto original work.

As a fellow fantasy fan and user of humor, I could not resist The Fork of Truth series. Although, Oblivion could have done with some more/better voice actors. Still, your comic got me into playing Oblivion again. I'm usually a Mage character, but I'm finding that playing as an Assassin is so much fun and much easier. I'm level three right now and so far it's been one hit kills. I've even managed to sneak up on a few people to do melee attack (sneak attack bonus x6). The hardest thing was deciding between the Thief or the Shadow for my character's star sign. I went with Thief thinking that I could train him in Illusion later as well as Mysticism for the Detect Life and similiar spells.

Quick questions: Have you ever thought of sending an Assassin or another such hired killer (Necromancer or Black Knight maybe?) to impede our duo's progress or at least try to? What are the characters' star signs? Though I'm pretty sure as it is, what exactly are the classes that the two main characters represent? And how often do you update The Fork of Truth?

Sorry, I've seem to have ranted on there a bit. Damn you, ADHD!

I can't wait to see more of your work.

Well, I'm flattered! I'm glad you like my comic, making people laugh is quite rewarding. ^^ And thieves/assassins are always my favorites classes, though my personnal classes are quite polyvalent (for example, lockpicking is a completely useless talent, as well as athletism to me)

As for the questions:
Ah, I won't say, wait and see... =D
Well, I suppose Aydel is "the Lover" of course... =D And Jill must be born under the Lady. I guess...
Jill is a warrior as well as a mage specialized in illusion and restoration spells, and knows alchemy. Aydel is mostly a thief, as well as a good archer, destruction mage and lover. XD
They don't really represent any classe in the game, but Jill surely caricatures the warriors and Aydel the thieves. Mage and assassin (I mean, TRUE assassin) are missing.

And, finally, I update the Fork Of Truth when I've finished the next pages. When I've finished more than one page, I usually wait one or two days before updating. ^^

You're quite welcome and thank you for answering my questions the best you could. I realise after I had posted that reply that the first question was something you wouldn't tell me as it would be a spoiler. Well, there is no harm in asking; the answers on the other hand can be dangerous, disappointing, or silly among other things.

By the way, if you haven't seen these on dA yet (and I think you would have faved one of them if you had), here are a couple of Morrowind/Oblivion related things. I think you'll get a laugh from at least one of them.

Oh, and if you do decide on adding a new character to the group, I hope they will be as silly as the other two. Like maybe an Assassin or Mage with a drinking problem. Dangerous when sober, yet even more so when drunk. He/She would also be using alchemy in order to find the perfect cure for a hangover.
